69: The Ghost and The Darkness (w/ Graham Hughes)
Friday Sep 06, 2019
Friday Sep 06, 2019
Firstly, I just want to say a huge apology for this week's episode. A premises adjacent to SVPC HQ decided to do some hammering mid recording. I hope it doesn't mar your listening experience too greatly.
Anyway, onto EPISODE 69!
The guest this week is coming fresh from the World Premiere of his latest feature film Death of A Vlogger at Frightfest...
It's the truly delightful, Graham Hughes!
His chosen film? The Ghost and The Darkness!
Directed by Stephen Hopkins, the man behind Predator 2 and A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, TGATD marks a weather change in Hopkins' output, moving from straight horror, to old-timey adventure epic. The film stars Val Kilmer (rocking a terrible Irish accent), producer and actor Michael Douglas, Tom Wilkinson and Emily Mortimer and sees our heroes set against a duo of man-eating lions in Kenya.
The Synopsis is as follows:
Sir Robert Beaumont is behind schedule on a railroad in Africa.
Enlisting noted engineer John Henry Patterson to right the ship, Beaumont expects results. Everything seems great until the crew discovers the mutilated corpse of the project's foreman, seemingly killed by a lion.
After several more attacks, Patterson calls in famed hunter Charles Remington, who has finally met his match in the bloodthirsty lions.
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and some EXTREMELY Scottish accents.

Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below...

68: Hellbent (w/ Nicholas Vince)
Friday Aug 30, 2019
Friday Aug 30, 2019
It's the first episode after Frightfest and, yes, Mitch and Andy are both back in the room for this, EPISODE 68!
The guest this week is...well...he's horror royalty and one of the loveliest people in the genre. He's perhaps best known for his appearances in Clive Barker's Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II and Nightbreed. He also crops up in Stewart Sparke's Book of Monsters, Lawrie Brewster's anthology For We Are Many and Andy's short film, Remnant.
As if that's not enough, he is also gearing up for his first one-man show, I Am Monsters...
It's the Chatterer Cenobite himself, our good pal, Nicholas Vince!
His chosen film? Hellbent!
Tagged as the first gay slasher film, Hellbent is a largely forgotten curiosity from 2004. Which is a bit of a shame to be honest. Not without it's problems but there's still a lot to like. It's not the easiest film to get your mitts on but seek it out.
The Synopsis is as follows:
A group of gay friends is celebrating Halloween in West Hollywood, a neighborhood that's being prowled by a killer wearing a devil's mask.
One of them, Eddie, who works for the police, brings the others through some woods to check out a recent murder scene. They ignore the mask-wearing killer, who follows the group to a club, where he starts decapitating them one at a time -- until the only ones left are Eddie and Jake, a potential love interest.
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and some EXTREMELY Scottish accents.

We have barely scratched the surface as it relates to Frightfest. Stay Tuned!

Friday Aug 23, 2019
Friday Aug 23, 2019
Greetings from Frightfest! Well, Mitch is there. Andy is home editing. Our guest is ALSO there.
And she is a returning guest. You may remember her from Episode 39 of this show where she joined us to take a look at Anaconda and now, she's back to take a look at the first of the sequelsssss.
She is the director of the short films Call Girl, The Stylist, 42 Counts and the Frightfest 2019 short selection One Last Meal... It's Jill Gevargizian!
(PS... Jill is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the feature length version of The Stylist. You could worse than throwing some coin at this one)
The film? Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid!
How will this stack up against the first? Find out within!
The Synopsis is as follows:
Bill Johnson leads a group of scientists into the jungles of Borneo. They are searching for the mythical black orchid, which can supposedly grant eternal life. Unfortunately, massive anacondas have been feeding on the orchids for years. When their boat goes over a waterfall, the scientists land right in the middle of the snakes' home.

66: There Are Monsters (Mitch v Andy)
Friday Aug 16, 2019
Friday Aug 16, 2019
Well, it had to happen again. The dreaded last minute cancellation brings the Frightfest streak to a close but it's another Mitch v Andy episode and still kind of Frightfest adjacent... It should've been Andy's turn but Mitch swooped in...
His chosen film? There Are Monsters!
A film that (outrageously) closed Frightfest Glasgow in 2015, They Are Monsters is ALMOST a found footage film, almost works and is almost decent. Almost.
The Synopsis is as follows:
There Are Monsters is a feature length horror based upon the apocalyptic premise that the world is being taken over - slowly, quietly and efficiently - by creatures that look exactly like us. The story follows a graduate-student film crew who, on a work-related road trip, discover evidence of these doppelgangers.
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and some EXTREMELY Scottish accents.

Frightfest is nearing. 2 weeks away now! And our streak still shows no signs of abating as this week, for EPISODE 65, we are joined by the director of Frightfest 2019 selection Satanic Panic, a film that made both Andy and Mitch's "Most Anticipated" lists...
It's Chelsea Stardust!
Her chosen film? Brain Damage!
From legendary shlockster Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case/Frankenhooker) comes this wonder. Truly exceptional.
The synopsis below says it all. Enjoy!
