Minisode 105: Intergalactic Heavy Metal Space Opera
Monday Jun 01, 2020
Monday Jun 01, 2020
Man, 2020 gets more and more crazy every day. We have premature easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in England, protesting and riots in the US and Elon Musk built a good rocket. It's a weird and scary time indeed but for now, Andy and Mitch are locked away, continuing to bring you content.
So, without further ado, MINISODE 105!
Topics this week include Arrow Video's release of Lucky McKee's excellent THE WOMAN, SLAUGHTER HIGH, Smoky Thriller Friday takes a backseat to our LIVE watchalong and Mitch continues his 90s side-quest with THE RAGE: CARRIE 2!
Also, there's another installment of MITCH'S PITCHES!
Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below...
We also announce the film and guest for this week's main episode.
In addition to all this, we dig into your posts and messages in the Feedback section and tell you what you should be watching as we look at what's arriving on streaming platforms this week!

104: Open Windows (Mitch v Andy)
Friday May 29, 2020
Friday May 29, 2020
HEY! Rejoice! For better or worse it looks like lockdown is easing a little. Things are looking up, y'all! Well, that is until the next inevitable lockdown! BUT that's a ballache for the future. We are focused on the here, the now, on EPISODE 104!
Anyway, our guest this week is a RETURNING guest. A horror writer, an occasional doer of musical things and one of the hosts of the podcast STRONG LANGUAGE & VIOLENT SCENES...
It's MITCH BAIN!
His chosen film? OPEN WINDOWS!
We all know Mitch loves a tech-horror. That's no secret. So it should come as no surprise to learn that he has gone for TimeCrimes and Colossal director Nacho Vigalondo's 2014 "webcam" mystery, Open Windows!
This might well be a contentious issue as we did into the film, which stars Elijah Wood, Sasha Grey and Neil Maskell! Can Mitch come out on top and win Andy round? Dive in and see!
The synopsis is as follows:
An actress refuses to have dinner with a fan who won a date with her in an Internet contest.
In return, a man posing as her campaign manager, helps the winner to follow in the footsteps of the actress from his own computer.
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and EXTREMELY Scottish accents.

Lockdown continues. Losing control. Bring the yuks! It's Episode 103!
Our guest this week is the author of the novels THE BOY, THE REMAKING and Marvel's SCREAM: CURSE OF CARNAGE...
It's Clay McLeod Chapman!
His chosen film? Student Bodies!
The synopsis is as follows:
In this seminal horror-comedy, an anonymous killer known only as "the Breather" terrorizes the teenagers of Lamab High by killing every student who indulges in sex.
The long list of suspects includes the school's psychoanalyst, nurse, principal and, most surprisingly, virginal student Toby, who's always at the scene of the crime.
Toby knows she's innocent, however, and vows to catch the killer.

Hello CHUDs! I hope lockdown is continuing to be tolerable and that you aren't gathering in any parks anywhere protesting against the invisible shackles imposed upon you by multi-national organisations working in cahoots with shadowy governments. If you HAVE been doing that, you're a dick.
THIS WEEK, saw us kick-start a new thing, over on Facebook, it's a little group called The CHUD Locker, where you wonderful people can go and discuss films, games, your own projects and even slag off Andy as he's not on Facebook and cant see it. Have at it!

Friday May 15, 2020
Well that's it. The excitement of Episode 100 is behind us. Back to business as usual with this one, EPISODE 102!
Our guest this week is the director of the amazing short THE BABYSITTER MURDERS and the Glasgow Frightfest 2020 selection THE MORTUARY COLLECTION...
It's Ryan Spindell!
His chosen film? Burnt Offerings!
I will preface this with a comment. I KNOW. I know that this film is not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination. What it IS, is an excellent film in need of some love and one that everyone should see.
It's a twist on the to-good-to-be-true haunted house movie which stars Oliver Reed, Karen Black, Bette Davis and Burgess Meredith!
The synopsis is as follows:
Ben and Marian Rolf can't believe how cheap the rent is at their giant Victorian summer home.
Over time, however, they begin to sense that there's something peculiar about the place. Marian becomes strangely obsessed with keeping house, Ben finds himself prone to unusual bursts of anger and his vivacious aunt Elizabeth becomes withdrawn, then mysteriously dies.
As the couple tries to adjust, they wonder if the house itself could be responsible?
Huge thanks to Ryan for joining us! Follow him on Instagram HERE!

Another week in lockdown sorted. Andy's hair is getting shorter, his beard longer. Mitch, the exact opposite. Days have no meaning. It's all a blur.
That said, STAY HOME. Don't be a dick because Boris Johnson says you can. We will still be here giving you all the goodness you'd expect.
Massive thanks to the ever wonderful MATT MERCER for this week's audio message!
So, on with MINISODE 102!
Topics this week include Shudder Exclusive Z, 15th Century mind-fuck HAGAZUSSA, Mitch looks at the offerings shown at SOHOME HORROR FILM FESTIVAL, Smoky Thriller Friday returns with a puff rather than a bang with Netflix's DANGEROUS LIES and Mitch continues his 90s side-quest with I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER!
Also, there's another installment of MITCH'S PITCHES!
Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below...

101: Æon Flux (w/ Natasha Kermani)
Friday May 08, 2020
Friday May 08, 2020
Well. That's it. The first HUGE milestone is behind us. 100 Episodes and now, it's business as usual as we fire into our next century with EPISODE 101!
So, with that in mind, we thought now would be a good time to bring back one of our favourite guests. You may remember her from WAY back in Episode 13, where she defended Johnny Mnemonic. She is the director of the excellent IMITATION GIRL and the upcoming LUCKY...
It is, of course, Natasha Kermani!
Her chosen film? Æon Flux!
Natasha continues her hot streak of selecting dystopian, or in this case utopian, sci-fi flicks with this one from director Karyn Kusama, who has gone on to make far better films such as Jennifer's Body, The Invitation and Destroyer. Based on an MTV animated series and the victim of intense studio meddling, Æon Flux was received poorly on release... but is this reputation deserved?
Æon Flux also features an incredible cast which includes Charlize Theron in the titular role, Jonny Lee Miller, Pete Postlethwaite, Sophie Okonedo and Frances McDormand!
The synopsis is as follows:
In the 25th century, the Earth's population has dwindled to a surviving five million following a devastating virus that almost resulted in the extinction of all human life 400 years earlier.
Confined to one city-state, a group of rebels, led by Handler, seeks to destroy the oppressive government -- first, by assassinating a high-ranking chairman.
Tasked with this mission, Aeon Flux must integrate herself in a world of deceit and mystery.
Huge thanks to Natasha for joining us! Follow her on Instagram HERE!
Also, massive thanks to RUIN ME director Preston De Francis for his opening message!
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and EXTREMELY Scottish accents.
