Minisode 25: Mandy & Halloween
Monday Oct 22, 2018
Monday Oct 22, 2018
Greetings from Celluloid Screams!
This episode was recorded on the afternoon of Friday, 19th October from Showroom 5 of the Showroom Cinema as we prepared for our LIVE show. We are using Shure microphones as opposed to our usual condenser mics so apologies for any weird sound anomalies, plosives or whatever.
Topics include Panos Cosmatos' Nic Cage/Andrea Riseborough revenge flick, Mandy, and a very quick oversight of our thoughts on Blumhouse and David Gordon Green's Halloween! Also, we check in on Mitch's progress through the ShockWaves 100!
ALSO, we have another installment of MITCH'S PITCHES!
Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below with the image that Mitch was working from on top...
In addition to all this, we dig into your posts and messages in the Feedback section!

25: Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (w/ Matt Mercer)
Friday Oct 19, 2018
Friday Oct 19, 2018
While Andy and Mitch are gearing up for their LIVE show at Celluloid Screams, the wheels keep turning! So with that in mind and on the day that sees the Worldwide release of Blumhouse and David Gordon Green's Halloween, we thought that we would get in the spirit with an episode sure to get you in the mood!
Episode 25 sees Andy and Mitch joined by actor (Beyond the Gates, The Minds Eye, Contracted) and director of Frightfest favourite Dementia: Part II, Matt Mercer.
His chosen film? Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers!
Following the relative flatness of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, the sixth instalment in the slasher franchise almost feels like a welcome breath of fresh air as it makes bold attempts to take the franchise in new directions, while ramping up the violence. Is it successful? You be the judge of that.
Featuring the debut appearance of Paul Rudd, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers is the last hurrah of a dying sub-genre. The Halloween film for the slasher fans just waiting for the release of Scream a year later.
The synopsis is as follows:
Since psychotic killer Michael Myers disappeared with his niece Jaime in a fire six years ago, the town of Haddonfield has been readjusting itself to come to terms with the horrors it has witnessed. Despite the warnings of psychiatrist Doctor Sam Loomis, the townsfolk are ready once again to celebrate Halloween. A shock is in store for all, however, when Michael makes a bloody return.

24: House of Mortal Sin (w/ Rob Nevitt)
Friday Oct 12, 2018
Friday Oct 12, 2018
Episode 24 sees Andy and Mitch joined by filmmaker and director/lead programmer of Sheffield's Celluloid Screams Horror Film Festival (see Bonusode 2), Rob Nevitt.
His chosen film? House of Mortal Sin!
Directed by legendary British filmmaker Pete Walker, 1976's House of Mortal Sin is Walker thumbing his nose at the Catholic church with a story that is equal parts horrifying, bleak, prescient and timely. The film stars Susan Penhaligon, Anthony Sharp, Norman Eshley, Stephanie Beacham, Sheila Keith and Andrew Sachs.
The synopsis is as follows:
Jenny visits the local Catholic church to have her confession is heard by the immoral Father Meldrum, who is perversely interested in her sex life. Rushing to escape his prying, she drops her apartment keys which Meldrum uses to invade her house and blackmail her by threatening to publish her recorded confession. Father Meldrum is looked after by his sinister housekeeper, Miss Brabazon and when Jenny's boyfriend Terry confronts Meldrum, he is attacked with incense and buried alive in the churchyard. Father Meldrum s standing in the community means that no one will suspect or accuse a man of the cloth; but in the meantime more people begin to die in mysterious ways through poisoned communion wafer and strangulation by rosary beads...

23: Armageddon (w/ Jenn Wexler)
Friday Oct 05, 2018
Friday Oct 05, 2018
Episode 23 sees Andy and Mitch joined by Jenn Wexler, producer for Glass Eye Pix and OF Mickey Keating's Darling and Psychopaths. Jenn is also the director the opening film from Frightfest 2018, The Ranger!
Her chosen film? Armageddon!
Directed by the Master of Mayhem, Michael Bay, and featuring a gargantuan, and frankly brilliant, cast, Armageddon is the summer blockbuster you love to hate, despite it being the highest grossing film of 1998. Is the hate valid? Is there more to this driller thriller than meets the eye?
The synopsis is as follows:
When an asteroid threatens to collide with Earth, NASA honcho Dan Truman determines the only way to stop it is to drill into its surface and detonate a nuclear bomb. This leads him to renowned driller Harry Stamper, who agrees to helm the dangerous space mission provided he can bring along his own hotshot crew. Among them is the cocksure A.J., who Harry thinks isn't good enough for his daughter, until the mission proves otherwise.

22: Pieces (Andy v Mitch)
Friday Sep 28, 2018
Friday Sep 28, 2018
Episode 22 sees Andy and Mitch guestless yet again following a literal eleventh hour cancellation moments before pressing record on Monday's Minisode. However, like the troopers they are, they rally and adapt and once again, go mano a mano over a film, this time, chosen by Andy.
The chosen film? Pieces!
Directed by J.P. Simon, director of the equally stunning Slugs, Pieces is an uproariously nonsensical and gore-filled romp that wants you to see it. Pieces wants it. Don't disappoint Pieces.
It's simply brilliant. Go see it.
The synopsis is as follows:
A Boston college campus is being terrorised by a black-clad maniac who collects body parts from his unfortunate co-ed victims. As the corpses (and red herrings) begin to pile up, can Professor Brown unmask the murderer before his morbid puzzle is complete?
