30: Jaws: The Revenge (w/ AJ Bowen)
Friday Nov 23, 2018
Friday Nov 23, 2018
Duh-dun. Duh-dun. Dun du dun du dun du... ROAR! Yes! Episode 30 is here and we are absolutely deighted to be joined by a man with an unbelievably impressive genre film CV which includes Ti West's House of The Devil and The Sacrament and Adam Wingard's A Horrible Way To Die and You're Next...
It's AJ Bowen!
His chosen film? Jaws: The Revenge!
Well then. It's finally come to this. Jaws: The Revenge, I suppose was inevitable and what great company to discuss it in!
Coming over a decade after the timeless original and completely disregarding the events of Jaws 3D, J:TR is a bizarre film-making experiment that, depending on your perspective, is either amazing or awful. General consensus tends to lean toward the latter.
With a roaring, haunted, lethargic shark, more conch than your mind can handle and, not forgetting Michael Caine, J:TR simply must be seen to be believed and, even then, your fragile minds may not be able to take it.
The synopsis is as follows:
The family of widow Ellen Brody has long been plagued by shark attacks, and this unfortunate association continues when her son is the victim of a massive great white. In mourning, Ellen goes to visit her other son, Michael, in the Bahamas, where she meets the charming Hoagie Newcombe. As Ellen and Hoagie begin a relationship, a huge shark appears off the coast of the island, and Ellen's trouble with the great whites begins again.

Monday Nov 19, 2018
Monday Nov 19, 2018
After his trip to the Big Smoke last weekend (and the awful sounding Minisode - apologies), Mitch is back at HQ and we can get on with business in Minisode 29!
Topics include Daniel Goldhaber's Blumhouse-produced CAM (now available on Netflix), Jerome Sable's Stage Fright and a little more on the Soho Horror Film Festival. Also, find out how Mitch is getting on with the ShockWaves 100 and learn the identity of the guest and film for this week's show!
ALSO, we have another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES!
Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below with the image that Mitch was working from on the left...
In addition to all this, we dig into your posts and messages in the Feedback section!

29: Scream 4 (Mitch vs Andy)
Friday Nov 16, 2018
Friday Nov 16, 2018
Episode 29 sees Andy and Mitch guestless yet again following a cancellation. However, not ones to miss a release day, your intrepid hosts go mano a mano again, this time, chosen by Mitch.
His chosen film? Scream 4!
It's been over a decade since the revelations of Scream 3. Horror film director Roman Bridger is Sidney Prescott's half-brother and the newest Ghostface, stalking actors on the set of film-within-a-film, Stab 3. Scream 3, it's fair to say, is woeful. Not even the amazing Parker Posey can save it from being a convoluted mess, lost in the very things it is trying to lampoon.
Cut forward 10 years. Wes Craven's final outing before his death. Scream 4. A Scream film for a new generation. As the tagline says, "New decade. New rules" but is that the case? Or is it just more of the same from a franchise that didn't need extending?
Mitch likes it. Is he right?
The synopsis is as follows:
It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott has written a self-help book. She returns to Woodsboro for her book tour and reconnects with old friends Gale Weathers and Sheriff Dewey Riley. However, Sidney's arrival also sparks the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney and everyone she loves in danger.

ALSO, we have another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES!

28: Halloween III: Season of the Witch (w/ John McPhail)
Friday Nov 09, 2018
Friday Nov 09, 2018
Bringing an end to our Halloween mini-series which began with Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (or with Halloween: H20, maybe?) we are joined IN PERSON for Episode 28 by the director of the festival-crushing Christmas zombie musical, Anna and the Apocalypse, John McPhail, as we discuss the oft maligned black sheep of the Halloween franchise...
His chosen film? Halloween III: Season of the Witch!
With Michael Myers dead at the end of Halloween 2, John Carpenter felt that the Myers/Strode storyline had run its course. However, the franchise was believed to still have some steam in it and the decision was reached to press ahead with the third instalment with a view to making a yearly Halloween film, each with a different story.
How did this work out? Not well. The film tanked. It was a commercial and critical failure and the decision was reversed. The fans wanted Michael Myers and that's what they got going forward.
That said, there's an awful lot to love in Halloween III: Season of the Witch...
The synopsis is as follows:
Hospital emergency room Dr. Daniel "Dan" Challis and Ellie Grimbridge, the daughter of a murder victim, uncover a terrible plot by small-town mask maker Conal Cochran, a madman who's planning a Halloween mass murder utilizing an ancient Celtic ritual.
The ritual involves a boulder stolen from Stonehenge, the use of Silver Shamrock masks and a triggering device contained in a television commercial -- all designed to kill millions of children.

27: Jason X (w/ Boz)
Friday Nov 02, 2018
Friday Nov 02, 2018
Episode 27 sees Andy and Mitch joined by Boz from The Little Pod of Horrors!
His chosen film? Jason X!
Almost a decade after Jason went to Hell, we reconvene with the hockey mask-wearing killer as he is blasted off into space for some intergalactic stalk and slash fun in Jim Isaac's tenth instalment in the Friday the 13th franchise.
With Kane Hodder once more in the suit, the film was met with less than enthusiastic reviews upon its release and is still, today, looked down upon by franchise fans and horror fans in general.
The synopsis is as follows:
The year is 2455. The Place is Old Earth. Once the shimmering blue jewel of the galaxy, Old Earth is now a contaminated planet abandoned for centuries. Yet humans have returned to the deadly place that they once fled. Not to live, but to research the ancient rusting artifacts of the bygone civilizations that caused this environmental disaster. And little does the most recent landing party of intrepid young explorers realize the fate that awaits them.

THIS EPISODE CONTAINS SPOILERS! LOADS OF THEM! WE MEAN IT!

No, we aren't talking exclusively about Michael Myers but rather saying a fond welcome back to Ruin Me director Preston DeFrancis, who joined us previously to discuss Halloween H20! Our first returning guest!
At the time of recording that episode, we touched on the imminent release of Blumhouse and David Gordon Green's Halloween (2018) and jokingly said, "You should come back on when the film's out and dissect it".
Well, here we are. It's out. We have all seen it and Preston is back. What did he make of it? What is the overall feeling on the film? Find out inside!

26: LIVE: Starship Troopers (w/ André Gower)
Friday Oct 26, 2018
Friday Oct 26, 2018
This episode was recorded on the afternoon of Friday, 19th October from Showroom 5 of the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield. We are using Shure microphones as opposed to our usual condenser mics so apologies for any weird sound anomalies, plosives or whatever.
Episode 26 sees Andy and Mitch LITERALLY joined by André Gower, fellow podcaster, star of Fred Dekker's 1987 cult classic, The Monster Squad and, now, director of the definitive documentary on the film, Wolfman's Got Nards, as they put their heads together over drinks and with an audience at Celluloid Screams!
His chosen film? Starship Troopers!
Following the success of Basic Instinct and the critical and financial failure of Showgirls, director Paul Verhoeven returned to form with his satiric bug-stomping space saga, Starship Troopers! However, it's fair to say that the reception at the tiime was less than kind.
Hammered by critics and barely recouping it's $100 million budget, Starship Troopers is only now finding the love it deserves. But does it? Watch it for yourself!
Ultra-violent and actio-packed, the film features an all-star cast including Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Dina Meyer, Michael Ironside and Jake Busey.
The synopsis is as follows:
In the distant future, the Earth is at war with a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs except that they are intent on the eradication of all human life. But there was a time before the war... A Mobile Infantry travels to distant alien planets to take the war to the Bugs. They are a ruthless enemy with only one mission: Survival of their species no matter what the cost...
ALSO, we have a LIVE installment of MITCH'S PITCHES!
Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below with the image that Mitch was working from on the left...
Once again, just massive thanks to Andre for taking the time to join us, to Rob, Polly and the team at Celluloid Screams for putting us on, to the guys at Arrow Video for sorting us out with goodies to give away and, of course, to the audience who joined us.
