45: Seed of Chucky (w/ Mitch Harrod)
Friday Mar 22, 2019
Friday Mar 22, 2019
Episode 45 sees Andy and Mitch joined by the co-director and programmer of the excellent Soho Horror Film Festival (check out Bonusode 4 for more)... it's another Mitch, Mitch Harrod!
His chosen film? Seed of Chucky!
Following on from the events of Ronny Yu's Bride of Chucky, Seed sees Brad Dourif's diminutive demonic doll embarking on yet another killing spree, acccompanied by his "wife", Tiffany and son/daughter, Glen/Glenda, played by former Hobbit and fellow Scot, Billy Boyd.
Franchise mastermind Don Mancini's film is one that sticks out like a sore thumb in the series and, while it has some interesting things to say about gender fluidity, sexuality and family dynamics, is it actually any good?
The synopsis is as follows:
Gentle Glen is a ventriloquist's dummy, the offspring of evil doll Chuckyand his doll bride, both of whom are now deceased. When the orphaned Glen hears that a film is being made about his parents, he goes to Hollywood and resurrects them in an attempt to get to know them better. He is horrified when Chucky and his lover embark on a new killing spree, and Chucky is equally horrified that his son has no taste for evil.
Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and EXTREMELY Scottish accents.

43: Urban Legend (w/ Mike Muncer)
Friday Mar 08, 2019
Friday Mar 08, 2019
Episode 43 sees Andy and Mitch joined by the host of the absolutely excellent Evolution of Horror Podcast (which was one of the first podcast recommendations in the early minisodes)... it's Mike Muncer!
His chosen film? Urban Legend!
Following the release and subsequent success of Wes Craven's Scream, the slasher film enjoyed something of a renaissance. However, it's fair to say that this came with mixed results. Films like I Know What You Did Last Summer were well received, while films like Cherry Falls and Valentine, were less so and have largely slipped out of memory.
Standing tall in the pile, and yet often overlooked, is Urban Legend!
With a cast that includes Alicia Witt, Jared Leto, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, Joshua Jackson and Robert Englund, Urban Legend is a fun, if frequently nonsensical slasher, that shouldn't be forgotten. Check it out, or don't.
The synopsis is as follows:
A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles to find the killer and stop the bloodshed before she becomes the next victim.

Friday Mar 01, 2019
Friday Mar 01, 2019
Episode 42 sees Andy and Mitch release their long-gestating LISTENER'S CHOICE episode. As for the guest? Well it's a returning guest! In fact, it's the first guest that ever appeared on the show, way back in Episode 2! He is the voice of Insane Championship Wrestling, a radio host, panto star and, crucially, award winning comedian... It's Billy Kirkwood!
The chosen film? Howard The Duck! A film chosen by listener Lauren McIntyre!
In her defence, Lauren said:
This one will be a slog. Its a famously reviled film but is the hate deserved? FIND OUT INSIDE!
The synopsis is as follows:
Howard the Duck is suddenly beamed from Duckworld, a planet of intelligent ducks with arms and legs, to Earth, where he lands in Cleveland. There he saves rocker Beverly from thugs and forms a friendship with her. She introduces him to Phil, who works at a lab with scientist Dr. Jenning. When the doctor attempts to return Howard to his world, Jenning instead transfers an evil spirit into his own body.

41: Queen of The Damned (w/ Joey Keogh)
Friday Feb 22, 2019
Friday Feb 22, 2019
Things get incredibly sexy in Episode 41 as Andy and Mitch joined by the news editor for Wicked Horror and contributor to outlets such as Vague Visages, BirthMoviesDeath and The List... it's Joey Keogh!
Her chosen film? Queen of The Damned!
Coming almost a decade after Interview With The Vampire, the continuing story of the Vampire Lestat sees him brought screaming into the present, fronting the biggest rock band in the world (also called The Vampire Lestat) and inadvertently awakening the Goddess of all vampires, Akasha, played by the late Aaliyah.
Critically mocked and generally overlooked, though featuring an incredible nu-metal soundtrack, Queen of The Damned is a film that may not merit the scorn... Let's dig in and see.
The synopsis is as follows:
Follows the legendary vampire Lestat, who has reinvented himself as a rock star in the contemporary American music scene. His music wakes Akasha, the queen of all vampires, and inspires her desire to make Lestat her king. Akasha's malevolent power is so great that all the immortal vampires must stand against her if they want to survive. Meanwhile, a young London woman with a fascination for the dark side falls in love with Lestat.
